Oskar Gawell was born on February 19, 1888 in Hawlodno in Poland and was a landscape, genre and portrait painter. He began his training at the academies in Wroclaw and Weimar, as well as with Lovis Corinth in Berlin. He later went on some study trips, which took him to Finland, Holland, Belgium, Italy, North Africa, Spain and Romania. In 1926 he was awarded the Albrecht Dürer Prize and until 1937 he worked as a teacher in Berlin. At the same time, he exhibited at the Secession there. In 1946 he became a member of the Vienna Secession and moved to Vienna. In 1952 an exhibition of his works took place in the Vienna Secession. Oskar Gawell died in Vienna on March 14, 1955.
