Friedrich Carl von Schönborn 1674 - 1746

1705-1732 Imperial Vice-Chancellor to the Vienna Court, as an act of grace his coat of arms was crowned with the Imperial Home Crown 1729-1746 ruling prince-archbishop of Bamberg and bishop to Würzburg. He reorganized the court chancery that was run down, he helped shape the "Pragmatische Sanktion", was mediator between the pope and the German emperor in 1714. In 1725 he played a determinant part in the peace treaty between Austria and Spain. In1727 he was elected as dean of Bamberg, in 1729 as prince-archbishop. His reformations in justice, administration and economics were formed by an early progressive spirit. He built the residence in Würzburg, more than 100 churches and was a sponsor of universities. Just before he died, Empress Maria Theresia and her husband Franz Stephan von Lothringen visited him in his residence in Würzburg.
