The attribution of this item to the circle of Georg Friedrich Killinger is based on the similarities in the latter’s heraldic animal depictions with those on the present beaker – these depictions are anatomically correct and engraved with great vigour and finesse. Further evidence for the attribution is provided by the calligraphic ornamentation, whose popularity was also spreading in the German-speaking countries through the circulation of pattern books and which had been enthusiastically taken up by good glass engravers as an enlargement of their decorative repertoire.
